Spring Is In the Air

Of all the transitions that happen daily, I can describe the change into Spring with the most detail.  It starts with the ever brightening sky I see each morning as I walk to the bus stop.  That first Monday morning after the daylight savings time change seemed to be the darkest I can recall, which I know not to be true because winter had passed.  It was so moonless and unlit because no one had any seasonal lights on (so you know it's not the holiday season) and the Friday before, the Sun was just rising over the mountain, making the bus ride much lighter.  Yet that Monday the Sun did not rise until school had long begun.  Now, a month or so later, the 6:30 am sky lightens a little bit each day.  This is an indicator to the longer days that Spring introduces, different from the lengthly nights that winter holds dear.
I'm sure all of us have noticed the warming of the temperature and even though some may dislike it, the snow is melting and mud is forming.  We have felt the warming Sun on our backs turning the once hard ground into a wet, spongy marsh with the melted snowpack.  The animals too are wasting no time getting out and about, for the birds sing their merry tunes and mother moose are accompanied by newborn calves.  I'm just waiting until the plant life erupts in lush hues of greens and beautiful floral colors.  Last, but not least, when I look outside, the deciduous trees of my backyard already sprout tiny buds, telling us hibernation is over, new life is to be born and that Spring is undoubtedly in the air.
